One Act Play competition 2021

It is our intention to be as flexible as possible with the the festival for 2021.  As you see below, the British Final has been pushed back to the end of September.  Each Division has been given flexibility to make local arrangements.  These will be published as they become available.

  • Western Division

    • Stage 1 of F1 to be submitted by the first weekend in December
  • Highland Division

    • Stage 1 Saturday 13 March 2021
    • Stage 2 Saturday 10 April 2021
  • Northern Division

    • Stage 2 date of 10th April no stage 1 required
  • Eastern Division

    • F1 stage 1 by 13 March
    • F1 Stage 2 by 10 April 2021.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): guidance for the performing arts and venues sector

Our own Drama Adviser Carole Williams interviews Ken Alexander.  There are sound issues with this recording, but we feel the wide interest this will have outweighs this.


Continuing our series on choosing a play, SCDA’s National Drama Advisor, Carole Williams, in conversation with Dominic Hill, Artistic Director of the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow about the process he uses for selecting plays to direct. Dominic shares his thoughts on what makes a good play and the importance of the ongoing relationship with the audience.



In-Motion theatre in partnership with SCDA present 10 short monologues written by SCDA members and performed by professional actors.  The actors are:- Alan Cumming, Robin Laing, Caroline Deyga,  Mark Armstrong, Alasdair Hill and Lisa Nicoll (creative director of In Motion theatre.)

Clubs involved in Beyond The Headlines include Kirkton Players, Ury Players, Aberdour Players, Spotlights Community Youth Theatre, Thornhill Players, Greenock Players, Dunoon Players, Linlithgow Players and Fintry Amateur Dramatic Society

National Office

Please note that following government guidance issued on Monday 23 March, the National Office for SCDA is now closed.

Brenda is working from home and will answer emails etc as soon as possible but please note that responses to phone calls and postal items will be slower.

To minimise the exposure of our staff to COVID-19, from now on Carole Williams will be working from home both for SCDA and her work at the Scottish Conservatoire.  Watch this space for more on her activities.
