One Act Play Festivals
The Scottish Community Drama Association welcomes entries into their annual one act festival. Local district rounds are held during February and March all over Scotland. The Divisional finals will then be held in March and April, with nine winners meeting at the Scottish Final at the end of April. The winner will represent Scotland at the British Finals. Youth teams are encouraged to take part in SCDA festivals. They compete beside adults in the district rounds (in the Highlands they are slightly different - a single adjudicator travels around specific youth festivals in three venues during the same week). The top youth then can progress on to a divisional youth final, and indeed some also beat adult groups and go on to the open divisional round as well. The four top youth teams from each division will meet at the Scottish Youth Final in June. Although competitive in nature the youth festivals have a great spirit of participation and camaraderie with youngsters encouraged to take part in all aspects of running a youth festival. If a club is premiering an original play in the festival then the club and author can be eligible to enter the Scott Salver competition, with the play being judged on the script not in performance by a panel of readers. Teams wishing to enter the SCDA festival must be paid up
members and submit the entry form and fee to their local district festival
organiser by the last Saturday in November. For further information on a district festival then contact the appropriate district secretary. Their name and addresses are listed on the clubs page. If a district is not holding a festival this year then clubs can ask to join another district round. |
