Play on Words

Play on Words is a playwriting competition open to anyone in Scotland. Winning playwrights work with a professional director to develop their script for a performance and publication.

About the Play on Words

For over 20 years the Play on Words competition has brought many new writers to the theatre. The competition is split into two parts: an open competition and an under 30s category.

Winning playwrights from each category are selected and can develop their scripts for production through one-to-one workshop sessions mentored by Guy Hollands, former Artistic Director of Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre.

Developed scripts will be performed and published by Cressrelles Publications. Copies of winning plays will be held in the SCDA library.

Rules

Running length of play is at least 20mins and not more than 55 mins.
