⭐️ Panto Postponement ⭐️
As a club we would usually be in full rehearsal mode for our annual family pantomime at this time of year, a panto which has traditionally graced the Barrfields Theatre stage for 47 years. But, for the first time, there have been no rehearsals, no costume fittings, no sets designed, and no band will strike up for curtain up, as the Covid 19 pandemic has forced us to sadly postpone our 2020 pantomime, Sleeping Beauty until, hopefully, early 2021.

Alongside many professional companies and amateur clubs, Largs Players have decided to postpone its traditional theatre experience and we all remain hopeful of presenting a family pantomime at Easter, or into summer.

With no indicative date for indoor performances being permitted to resume, despite holding off for as long as was feasible, the Club have decided to delay the production to ensure the safety of all audiences and cast and crew, until a time when it is safe to do so.

The production may look different when it is performed as socially distanced audiences look set to become the new normal, however the club has lots of ideas on how to safely present the show when allowed to do so.

These past few years, we’ve worked to create a magical spectacle onstage for families with our pantomimes and we have lots of creative ideas on how we can continue to do that, but at this time without dates of when we perform, we must postpone.

Although the actors on stage are amateurs, the amdram panto scene employs and supports many professionals in the industry including technicians and musicians, whilst supporting professional hire companies with set and costume hire. All of these people have suffered a huge impact with no events taking place this year.

Outside of the professions we support, there are many benefits for the amateurs on stage with the club bringing everyone together, in a fun, sociable and safe space where they can be themselves and create something born from imagination for many families, with panto often being the first experience of theatre for many children.

It is important that the arts are protected at all levels, and we very much look forward to once again creating magic in 2021, just not this Christmas.

This is merely the interval, we will be back, and hopefully very soon....Oh yes we will!

2021 FESTIVAL ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with a very heavy heart that the committee has taken the decision to cancel the Kintyre-Argyll District Drama Festival that was due to take place in February 2021, which would have been our 72nd consecutive year.

Current restrictions on gathering indoors unfortunately makes rehearsing impossible, and we all agreed there is no way of going ahead in a safe and responsible manner.

Needless to say this means we'll all just have to make sure 2022 is extra fabulous!

Stay safe everyone x

Did you know that if you own or manage a ' not for profit' theatre building you can apply for a grant to make adaptations in anticipation of reopening in the future. Here's a link to the fund.
